Friends of St Mary’s School (Rawtenstall), the charity based at the school of the same name are very happy to announce that they have had a successful outcome from a Lottery Awards for All bid to help fund an "Arts Detectives” project!
The project was devised to provide a wide selection of arts to children in Rossendale and a great selection of activities will benefit from the funding.
Almost £10,000 will pay for number of clubs and equipment - a set of ukuleles will be used to start an after school club for children to learn how to play the instrument; art, singing, dance and theatre with a Sixties theme were provided during Wonderful Things (the programme of unusual and fun life experiences run in the school holidays); an art club every 2nd and 4th Saturday in the community room at St Mary’s CE Primary School in Rawtenstall; a regular drama group will meet after school and there will be opportunities for dance to be learnt.
Mr Holden said “We are delighted to receive these funds which allow us to respond to children’s creative appetites by providing many different art activities.
“We feel it’s important to look beyond the classroom. Maths and English are vital but there are other aspects of school which are important to a child’s development and the children are very excited about the extended range of activities we can now offer them.”
It is hoped that children will become Art Detectives and experience a diverse range of arts which will inspire them to develop their creative talents and discover new ones.
